Malware Affects Thousands of WordPress Sites

wordpress-malware-200x200According to security firm Sucuri, a significant number of WordPress sites have been hit by Malware. Thousands of corporate and personal websites have been compromised by a new “visitorTracker_isMob” malware over the last few weeks. Evidently, visitors who attempt to visit the affected sites are redirected to a Nuclear Exploit Kit landing page, which probes their system for vulnerabilities and delivers ransomware threats. Around 95 percent of the compromised websites Sucuri has detected are running WordPress, 17 percent of which have been put on Google’s blacklists.

The best thing you can do to protect yourself from such attacks is to update your system as much as possible, including installation of the most recent operating system updates that Microsoft or Apple offers.  Also, make sure you run antivirus and anti-malware apps routinely as well.

If you’re a WordPress user, keep your plugins updated, including premium ones. It is also recommended to check if your website is currently being affected through WordPress’s Free Security/Malware Scanner.
