As organizations expand their use of cloud services, comparing performance can become a difficult, time-consuming process. To help, Google has announced a new open source framework for monitoring cloud application performance, called PerfKit.
The framework comes in two parts. PerfKit Benchmarker is the core system that tracks key metrics associated with performance, including latency, throughput, and overhead. Meanwhile, PerfKit Explorer is a visualization tool that includes several dashboards to help users track performance and make data more meaningful.
Released under the Apache 2.0 license, this new kit should make performance comparisons easier to make and, as cloud technology evolves, Google plans to develop PerfKit to meet changing requirements.
