In an era when huge amounts of data are created in short spaces of time, analytics engines need to keep up. Responding to this demand, Microsoft Research has developed a new streaming analytics engine, Trill.
According to a Microsoft blog post, Trill is capable of processing data at between two and four orders of magnitude faster than modern streaming engines. This makes it ideal for applications including social media analytics and processing data from live sensors.
Currently, Trill is being used to handle data from Bing Web Search advertising campaigns. Thanks to this innovative new engine, advertisers can see the results of their campaigns in just one hour – a fourth of the time it used to take for results to appear.
