Many college students are becoming victims of theft, stalkers, and hackers. In order to protect yourself, make sure you are following these very important tips. First make sure you are password protecting all of your electronics, and don’t use simple passwords. Make them difficult to break. Just think if your electronic device gets into the wrong hands it could be detrimental. Many young students don’t realize how much information they have at their fingertips that can be easily compromised including photos, banking information, etc. Second is be cautious about what you share with others on social media. You never know who is looking and waiting for you to let your guard down to take advantage. Don’t “over share” your locations and whereabouts. Also be conscious of what you post as far as pictures that may seem harmless in college but may come back to haunt you when you are meeting with an employer. There have been many instances when employees have been fired or declined jobs with a company because of posting unsavory pictures or comments on social media. Another way to protect yourself is to make sure you are customizing the security features so only friends can see what you share online. Be smart about what you click on online, it could be a virus or scam that could end up be extremely costly in the end. Make sure to invest in security protection for your phone and electronics. Its better to be prepared then have to suffer the consequences once identity theft or hackers have destroyed and taken everything that you have saved, financially and data/files that may be lost for good due to a virus.
