I read an article lately about this blood monitoring implant that connects with your smartphone and has the ability to warn you of an impending heart attack. It was developed by a team of scientists in Switzerland and is only 14mm. It currently monitors troponin, glucose levels, lactate, and ATP and transmits them via Bluetooth to your smartphone. To keep the device powered, you wear an external patch which acts as an inductive charging station which works through the skin.
I think things like this are going to be the way of the future. We essentially carry around a very useful tool in our smart phones which with the right accessory can monitor everything from heart rate to blood pressure. We could someday soon have the technology to constantly monitor our vitals and provide this information to doctors making diagnosis much easier and more precise. It’s as cutting edge as it gets.
