When talking about Business Class wireless routers most businesses are looking for security, remote access and scalability. Many business routers don’t come with built in wireless capabilities, however you can simply add wireless access points. Business class routers generally feature: VPN, support SSL portal and SSL tunnel VPNs, virtual networks, DMZ port, content filtering, and wireless distribution. Spyware, adware, malware and viruses are the plague of the IT world and computer users around the world. As a IT professional I have spent hours upon hours removing these bugs off of pc’s. I always have users asking me “how did this happen”, “what did I do”, in the end the fact is users need to be aware of their actions, the websites, the visits, the links, the click and emails they open. One of the best tools I have found to remove these vicious attacks is Ad-Aware Free Antivirus +. This tool is free and you can just download it from the internet. There are a lot of tools out there, Malwarebytes is usually one of the first ones I run. One thing you will learn is that sometimes you will find yourself running two or three applications to remove these infections, nothing is full proof unless you re-format and re-install the Operation system. The next time you find yourself having issues, try Ad-Aware.
The two top smartphones are the iPhone 5s and the Samsung 5. You’ll find there are hard core Apple users and hard core Android users. When pinned head to head here are the facts:
1 – Screen size: iPhone 5s 4inches vs Samsung 5 at 5.1 inches
2 – Camera: iPhone 8megs vs Samsung 5 at 16megs
3 – Operating System: iPhone has the iOS7 and the Samsun has the Android 4.4 Kit Kat
4 – Battery: both get about a day for data and talk time
5 – Connectivity: both have LTE
Going head to head the end result is what the user likes the most as far as ease of use and application. I am a long time iPhone user. I like the ease of use. I like when there is an update things are still generally the same. I like that even though things get faster and better the overall use is the same. I have touched the Samsung and it’s a robust piece of hardware with A LOT to offer. The tools and the gadgets that come with the Samsung are very impressive. If you are technical then going with a Samsung is a good way to go, I always tell users if they aren’t technical stick to the iPhone for its ease of use, doesn’t mean it’s lacking as there is A LOT you can do with an iPhone, but it’s amazing for both the non-technical and the technical.
To “promote better online security practices” Google has announced that they will begin to consider encryption as a factor in their page ranking system. For most small businesses, enabling TLS is easy and straight-forward, but for large systems with multiple servers and services this can be a real challenge. I would recommend using professional web developers, database administrators and network administrators to make a plan and help move your company onto a more secure connection with your customers. Give our sales team a call and see how we can help you accomplish this and all of you IT goals.
The Trendnet’s AC1900 Dual Band Wireless Router is said to be the fastest 802.11ac router according to an article written by PCMag.com. The setup is quick and easy which is always a plus. Unfortunately the Firmware updates failed and the NAS functionality is sluggish along with the interface. The interface failed to notify the tester that there was firmware available which is important. Overall the router is fast but has some bugs to fix such as the firmware update issue which helps fix bugs and security patches. This wireless router is available on Amazon.com for $153.07 and the MSRP is $232.99 so that’s a good $80 dollars off the price tag. For more information click on this link.
