802.11ac is the newest wireless technology speed that promises faster and longer ranges than current standard 802.11n. The new 802.11ac boost speeds three times faster than its predecessor. This will be particularly great for those who like to stream media, gaming and transferring data. Though the technology is still in infancy there are routers available that support this new technology and is backwards compatible to 802.11n.

Ever get up from your desk and find that someone has messed with your computer, changed your wallpaper, or left you a crazy message? Locking your computer is something everyone should do when stepping away, but its a simple task that is easily forgotten. If your a Mac user there is this handy utility called HandyLock. It pairs with your phone or any other bluetooth device, which is used as a “key” and when its out of range, the app will automatically lock your screen. You set the bluetooth signal strength to determine when it will lock your screen. Once its setup, all you do is walk away from the machine with the bluetooth device and once the range is hit your computer will lock. Pretty nifty.
Microsoft has developed a wireless display adapter to send whats on your phone, tablet or laptop to your TV or monitor. You can stream movies, photos and your presentation without wires up to 20 feet away. The device plugs in with with a usb and hdmi port then you simply mirror or extend your screen. Using the Miracast technology your not limited to certain apps or content. The device will be released 10/31/2014 priced at $59.95.

It all starts with password security. Come up with a password strategy, avoid using the same password for every site on the internet. Try out a password manager, like LastPass or KeePass, for your web browser and use a passphrase for your more secure sites like banks. Something like… Th1sisaVery$ecureP@$$W0rD or use the first letter of every word in a sentence that you can easily remember. “I am from Phoenix and I work for BVA!” would be IafPaIwfBVA! Looks like one of those crazy computer generated ones, but its way easier to remember!
The rumor mill is buzzing with word that Apple will be shutting down their newly acquired Beats streaming audio. They purchased the company a few months ago for 3 Billion after Tim Cook felt moved while listening to the service. Apple has not announced what they are planning to do with the service, but we anticipate they will be rolling out a new version of iTunes streaming services soon.
It’s almost expected at this point. Apple will release a new iOS and it’s going to have problems. Last week I heard some people bragging that they hadn’t made the switch to 7, and others wished they were still using 6.
